Summary

Schools turn to Teachers Council knowing that we extend ourselves both in our recruitment efforts and in our commitment to provide a variety of options for all their staffing needs. TC has an excellent reputation around the US and the world!

Majors. Positions are available for teachers with majors in almost all subject areas. Teachers Council has successfully recruited and placed teachers in early childhood - preschool, primary, middle and secondary schools. Subjects include all levels of math, all areas of science, languages, and general education. Positions are also available in specialized subjects that include: computer science, special education, physical education, dance, music and the arts. There is a great demand for bi lingual teachers, especially Spanish, but also positions are available in some schools for teaches of French, Chinese, and Korean for all grades and subject areas. The primary specialty area for Teachers Council is science and math and also bi lingual teachers in Spanish.

English Language. Teachers must have excellent English language fluency, including both spoken and written English. All teachers are initially pre-screened by Teachers Council and thereafter go through an extensive interview procedure with the school to present their English fluency as well as knowledge of subject matter, teaching methods and experience.

Experience. Participating teachers should have successful teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level. In some cases, internship as part of the academic studies is acceptable. In most cases, the teachers should have a teaching license from their home country and teaching experience, especially in the subject areas of math and the sciences. Teachers are required to provide verification of employment and present recommendations to the US schools.

Certification. It is understood that the international teacher cannot be fully certified, because the Praxis examinations and other similar testing requirements are only offered in the US. However, the course work of the teacher is reviewed and evaluated in order to determine if it meets the equivalency standards and requirements of the SDE and the school. Provisional, temporary, or emergency approval may be granted to the teacher by the SDE or the school district and testing can be completed upon entry or during the provisional term. Ultimately, teachers will need to take examinations because most states require the teacher in the public schools to be certified to conform to their state regulations and policies and the No Child Left Behind legislation and policy.

In the past, teachers screened by Teachers Council have often been successful in passing Praxis examinations after they begin teaching in the US. Based upon the state requirements, teachers can also be assistant teachers or substitute teachers until such time as they complete their certification and licensing. TC is there throughout this entire process helping the teachers prepare and successfully pass all necessary examinations for certification in your state.

Licensing. All teachers need to be fully credentialed in their home country. Each state varies as to the policies and regulations that govern the certification and licensing of teachers. Teachers Council will cooperate with the teachers to meet these requirements for the teaching position.

Screening of Teachers. You will go through a thorough screening and selection procedure, which includes application, resume, academic credentials, references and personal interviews. After successful completion of initial TC screening, your resumes are provided to the school to review your qualifications as a teacher. An extensive international telephone interview is conducted between you and the school. During the interview, the school can determine your English fluency, experience, personal characteristics, teaching philosophy, educational background, and goals. In some cases, depending upon the number of teachers that are requested by the school, TC will arrange for representatives of the school to travel to the country and personally interview you. In other cases, where possible, we will request that you facilities for a web cam or video conferencing. Most universities have this equipment.

No Risk. In most cases, there are no costs to the teacher for any of the services provided by Teachers Council unless the visa is approved. However, fees submitted to the US Government agencies, such as USCIS and for Educational Evaluation are non refundable. Details of the costs and responsibilities are included in the agreements between the teachers and Teachers Council, which is included in the Login Section. Teachers Council has a policy of No Visa - No Fee for its services.
